ITALIAN UNTRUTHS

OCCUPATION OF ISLANDS DENIAL BY BRITAIN (United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyright) LONDON, August 27 According to the Italian Stefani news agency, British forces are preparing to occupy the Canary Islands and the Azores for the purpose of safeguarding shipping routes. The Canary Islands are Spanish territory and the Azores are a Portuguese possession. A British official wireless message says the report, although ludicrous, is not regarded in London as being surprising, as Italian circles recently made similar assertions regarding what they described as the contemplated occupation by Britain of the Greek islands of Corfu and Crete. Official quarters in London emphatically deny the Italian statement that British forces are preparing to seize the Azores or Canary Islands.
