WEDDING
WILLI AMS—W ATKIN S MAGNOLIA SATIN GOWN Pink and white camelias and pale pink plum blossom made a charming background in the St. John’s Methodist Church, Hamilton East, on the afternoon of Saturday, August 17, when Vera Marjorie, youngest daughter of Mrs J. Watkins, of Hamilton, and the late Mr E. E. Watkins, was married to James Williams, of Huntly, third son of the late Mr and Mrs J. Williams. The Rev. W. Gatman was the officiating minister and Mrs A. Bettany played the wedding music. During the signing of the register Mr Peter Hewett sang an appropriate solo. The bride, who entered the church with her brother, Mr E. J. Watkins, wore a charming gown of magnolia French satin, the softly pleated bodice featuring a heart-shaped neckline, finished with sprays of white lilac. Italian quilting ornamented with seed pearls adorned the front of the frock and the long sleeves tapered to points over the hands. An inset panel at the back of the bodice was trimmed with tiny satin buttons and swept in a full flare to form a long train, the scallops of which were trimmed with sprays of lilac. Her beautifully embroidered tulle veil was held in place by a coronet of orange blossom and she carried a sheaf of white and pale pink hyacinths and maidenhair fern. As the bride left the church she was presented with a white corded ribbon horse shoe, trimmed with lilies-of-the-valley, by her niece, Miss Shirley Watkins. The Four Attendants Miss Joyce Watkins and Miss Norma Jones attended the bride as bridesmaids and little Nola Watkins and Desrae Jones were the flower girls. All four attendants were nieces of the bride. The ’maids wore frocks of spring green georgette over satin, fashioned with fully flared skirts and gauged bodices, which featured gauged butterfly sleeves and heart-shaped necklines. The flower girls’ frocks of cameo pink over satin, were fashioned on the same lines as those of the maids, the skirts being finished with two tiny frills at the hemlines and the waistlines encircled with pink
velvet sashes. Haloes of matching pleated net trimmed with pale pink wood-pulp flowers were worn on the hair and they carried bouquets of gold daffodils, primroses and pink plum blossom.
Mr J. Cronin, of Huntly, was the best man, and Mr B. Sutton, of Taupiri, was the groomsman. The ushers at the church were Messrs W. and L. Watkins, nephews of the bride. Later a reception was held in the Centreways Rooms, which had been charmingly arranged with bowls of spring flowers. Mrs Watkins received her guests wearing a frock of black satin-backed crepe with a lace collar and matching coatee, a black ballibuntal straw hat and black accessories. Her posy was composed of violets, daphne, and anemones. Mrs W. Young, of Taupiri, sister of the bridegroom, was wearing a navy and white ensemble with a matching hat and accessories and she carried a posy of violets and yellow jonquils. When Mr and Mrs J. Williams left for the wedding trip the bride travelled wearing a navy costume with a pale pink smocked georgette blouse, a navy hat, and accessories and a fur stole. They will make their home in Huntly. The Guest List The invited guests were:—Rev. and Mrs W. Gatman, Mr and Mrs E. L. Watkins, Mr and Mrs W. Young (Taupiri), Mr and Mrs E. J. Watkins, Mr and Mrs S.
