SOLDIERS FAREWELLED
An enjoyable social and dance was held recently at the National Club to farewell members of the City Rugby Football Club who are leaving New Zealand with the third echelon. The evening was spent in dancing, interspersed with musical items. Mr F. Jones, Senr., wished the guests of the evening a speedy and a safe return. Mr R. Johnston, president of the Hamilton Rugby Union, wished them God speed and the best of luck. The club’s president, Mr W. Timms, then presented Gunner Ron Kirby, Sapper Keith Chell and Privates Stuart Stevenson, Oliver and Doug Hunter, and Buster Thompson each with a gift from the club. Mr C. Perkins, captain of the senior team, made a presentation to Gunner Kirby from his team mates. Replying on behalf of the men Gunner Kirby expressed their appreciation and thanked the club for the enjoyable evening. Among those present were:—Mesdames H. M. Kirby, F. Jones, Snr., N. Timms, M. Percy, June Catley (Taupiri), Joan Harder, Nancy Hirst, Joan Williamson, M. Johanson, Joyce Pirie, N. Renolf, R. Bushell.
