NEWS FROM KAIPAKI
LOCAL MEN HONOURED Golden wattle, daffodils and greenery created a bright and festive appearance in the Kaipaki Hall recently, when many relatives and friends gathered to bid farewell to two local men, Mr Colin McDonald and Mr Richard McCarthy, who are members of the third echelon. Dancing was enjoyed, excellent music being supplied by Mrs Wiley (Ohaupo). Messrs R. Speake and H. A. Goodwin carried out the duties of masters of ceremonies. A novelty dance was won by Mr M. Cunningham and Mrs Y. Mellow.
During the evening the guests-of-honour were each presented with a fountain pen. In making the presentation, Mr G. Farrell wished them both good luck and a safe return. Mr R. Boyd, speaking for the Returned Soldiers’ Association, also spoke on similar lines. Each soldier suitably replied, admidst cheers. Supper was then served by the ladies of the Patriotic Committee.
