MANGATEPARU FUNCTION
FAREWELL TO SOLDIERS Mangateparu settlers attended in large numbers recently, when a social and dance was tendered to the men from the district of the third echelon. The Mangateparu Hall was filled to capacity, there being over 200 at the gathering, including many visitors from the surrounding districts. Privates J. Penny, J. Ruddick and J. Cameron, the guests-of-honour, each of whom had resided in the district for over ten years, were presented with a wallet containing a sum of money. The presentations were made by Mr Wilcox and Mr H. Herbert addressed the guests on behalf of the settlers. Capt. E. C. N. spoke on behalf of the Morrinsville Returned Soldiers’ Association. A novelty dance was won by Private J. . Gifford, of Motumaoho, and partner. Private Gifford contributed vocal solos, which were much appreciated.
