SOLDIERS FAREWELLED
PRESENTATIONS MADE The Te Mata Hall was taxed to its capacity recently, when five soldiers of the third echelon were farewelled by the residents of the district. The soldiers were Captain J. C. Porter, Privates F. Nicholson, S. Jerome, R. Dean and A. Nolan. Music for dancing being supplied by Mesdames G. Saunders, W. A. Thomson and Messrs K. Walker, J. Munns, and Chaffey. After supper, Mr J. L. Y. Martyn, president of the Te Mata District Association, in a suitable speech, presented the soldiers each with a pocket wallet with £1 enclosed. Other speakers were Mrs P. Adams, for the Women’s Division, and Messrs J. McCracken and F. Gibbison I‘or the Returned Soldiers’ Association. Captain J. C. Porter returned thanks on behalf of his comrades.
Items during the evening were songs given by Miss Jocelyn Cussen, and elocutionary items by Messrs R. Gear and W. Y. Saunders. Mr F. Vernon was master of ceremonies.
