KAIPAKI FUNCTION

FAREWELL TO SOLDIERS There was a gathering of over 100 people in the Kaipaki Hall recently, to farewell two men of the district, who are attached to the third echelon, Sapper R. McCarthy and Private Colin McDonald. The hall was gay with flags and floral decorations and a good programme of dances had been arranged by the masters of ceremonies, Messrs Roy Speake and K. A. Goodwin. Mrs Wiley, Ohaupo, presided at the piano. During the evening, Mr G. Farrell, on behalf of tiie district, and Mr R. Eoyd, on behalf of the Returned Soldiers’ Association, spoke tc the men, who were each presented with a suitably inscribed fountain pen. Mr Farrell wished them both good luck and a safe return, Mr Boyd corrobor?l;ng these remmks. They were then accorded mus'cai honbuis. Dancing w«s resumed and a nove’ty dance was won oy A 11 ': Cunningham and Mrs W. Mellow. Supper was served by the ladies of the social commit i ee.
