MONTHLY DANCE

TE KOWHAI PATRIOTIC EFFORT The usual monthly dance and euchre arranged by the Te Kowhai Patriotic Committee was held in the Te Kowhai Hall recently. The hall was filled to capacity, many visitors coming from adjacent districts. Dancing to music supplied by Clarrie Cresswell’s dance band made up the main part of the programme, extras being played by Mrs F. Weatherley, Mr Johnson and Mr Lineham. The duties of master of ceremonies were capably carried out by Mr Banwell. Euchre prizes were wan by Mrs Reid and Mr Harris. Novelty dances were won by Miss Jesty and Mr Mills and Mrs Mace and Mr Johnson. Competition winners were Mr Hyde and Mr A- Porter.

Opportunity was taken to farewell Pvte. Godbold, of the third echelon. Mr R. E. Harris, chairman of the local patriotic committee, in presentting him with a wristlet watch, referred to Pvte. Godbold’s happy associations with the Te Kowhai district where he had been a resident for many years and wished him, on behalf of the people of the district, the best of good luck and a safe return. As a result of the evening’s entertainment a nett sum of £l9 Is 5d was raised for the Provincial Patriotic Fund.
