SOLDIERS FAREWELLED

Residents of the Waiterimu and Matahuru districts met last week to bid farewell to Lieutenant T. Wallace and Privates L. Ebans and L. Watt, who are leaving for active service abroad with the third echelon. Mr R. Dickenson, of Matahuru, expressed the district’s admiration of those serving their country, and best wishes for their future. He presented each of the soldiers with a wallet initialled in gold letters and containing a £1 note. Lieutenant Wallace, replying, said the men felt their duty lay in active service, and thanked their many friends for the gifts and good wishes. Privates Evans and Watt also spoke briefly.
