Matches From the East
Wooden matches being in short supply in New Zealand, calls have been made on the East and supplies are now coming from the Straits Settlements. Australia, too, has furnished some supplies to meet New Zealand’s pressing need. Rationing by some wholesalers and retailers is still considered necessary. The request, “Give us a match,” now means what it says far more than it used to do when it was a preliminary to •‘Lend us a bob.”—Evening Post.
