MORRINSVILLE NEWS

FAREWELL TO SOLDIERS There was a splendid gathering of over 600 people in the Physical Culture Hall, Morrinsville, last Thursday to farewell the men of the Third Echelon, of Morrinsville and surrounding districts, who have been on leave. The hall was gay with flags and bunting and a splendid programme was presented. Those contributing were:—Songs, Mr W. G. Dunbar; tap dance trio, Ailsa Clarke, Avis Frampton and Joy Harbottle; duets, Mrs A. Wild and Miss R. Mackay; selections, Morrinsville Pipe Band; tap dance, Avis Frampton. The pipe band then piped the men to the platform where they were addressed by His Worship the Mayor, Mr W. Hetherington, Mr W. C. Kennedy, chairman of Piako County, Mr E. Hitchman, president of the Returned Soldiers’ Association, and Mr E. C. N. Robinson, vice-president of the Returned Soldiers’ Association. Each man was then presented with a well-equipped leather hold-all suitably inscribed. On behalf of the men Captain Collins thanked the patriotic committee and people of Morrinsville for their splendid entertainment and good wishes. The men were then accorded musical honours.
