TROPHIES PRESENTED
PIAKO CRICKET GATHERING (Special to Times.) MATAMATA, Friday The annual social gathering and presentation of trophies ox the Piako Cricket Association was held i'n the Fire Brigade social hall at Matamata and was well attended, the president, Mr J. Pohlen, being in the chair. The toast list was as follows:—the Association (Father Silk—Mr J. Pohlen); Affiliated clubs (Mr J. V. Tapper-Mr N. E. Rigden, Te Aroha); Kindred Sports (Mr J. Tims—Mr R. Somers, Morrinsville); Fighting Forces (Mr G. G. Griffiths—Father Silk). Other toasts included those of the press, ladies, groundsman, secretary and the chairman. Trophies were presented as follows:—Montague Cup for inter-sec-tion championship, Mr M. Miles, captain of the south team; Pohlen Cup for south section competition, Mr A. Hughes, captain of Wardville Club; Walters Cup, for north section competition, Mr R. Somers, captain of Nottingham Club (Morrinsville), Bowler Shield for knock-out competition, Mr D. Scott, captain of Old Boys Club (Matamata); bat for best bowling average, Mr N. E. Rigden (Te Aroha); bat for best battiny average, Mr R. Beaven (Matamata).
