PHOTOGRAPHIC CONTEST PRINTS FOR BLEDISLOE COP JUDGING IN HAMILTON With the holding of this year’s inter-club photographic competition for the Bledisloe Cup in Hamilton, great credit is reflected upon the Waikato Camera Club for arranging the fixture, which has resulted in being one of the finest so far held in the Dominion. That the leading clubs of New Zealand should have responded so well is evidence of the complete confidence felt by photographic pictorialists in the local selection of judges, Messrs J. Treloar, H. E. Gaze and L. F. Fraser. It was thought that, owing to the unsettled state of affairs today, the possibility of drawing together sufficient prints of the necessary standard was a remote one, but the response exceeded all expectations. Amongst the names of exhibitors appear many prominent in the N.Z. pictorial photographic world, such as Spencer Digby, Geo. Chance, Thelma Kent, C. E. Singleton, H. Farmer, McDonald, E. T. Robson, F. L. Casbolt, C. A. Weedon, Leila Black, and many others. The marking of the prints appears to be consistently high, the difference between the leading club and the one last on the list being a matter of 58 points. Two of the clubs, Waikato and Hawkes Bay, are comparative new-comers to the competition, and it augers well for the future of both that they should have been marked so close to the leading clubs. The Bledisloe Cup was presented by Lord Bledisloe, himself a keen amateur photographer, to foster a competitive spirit amongst photographic pictorialists, whether amateur or professional, and to advance the art of photography by the cooperative effort of amateur photographic societies throughout New Zealand. The competition is open to all societies within New Zealand and all exhibited work must have been taken within the Dominion. The prints will be on exhibition in the Bledisloe Hall next Tuesday evening. No admission charge is being made and it is to be hoped that a large number of those interested in art will avail themselves of the opportunity of seeing this fine selection of photographic prints.
