NURSES’ SUCCESS

EXAMINATION PASSES PRESENTATION OF MEDALS HOSPITAL WORK PRAISED A triple distinction has been won by Nurse M. G. Sheehan, of the Waikato Hospital staff. She won the Florence Nightingale lamp, a trophy awarded for the best essay by a New Zealand hospital nurse, while in the recent State nursing examinations she passed with honours. She also won a silver medal presented to the best all-round nurse at the Waikato Hospital. Reference to Nurse Sheehan’s success was made at the half yearly presentation of medals to nurses at the Waikato Hospital yesterday. The chairman of the .Waikato Hospital Board, Mr F. Findlay, particularly referred to Nurse Sheehan’s work. He also congratulated all the nurses who had passed the recent State nurses’ and maternity examinations. And he thanked the whole staff of the hospital for the splendid work they did in dealing with the influenza epidemic among the soldiers from the Hopu Hopu camp. The following passed the maternity examinations: —Campbell Johnstone Ward: Nurses A. I. Bond, V. C. Calder, F. I. Kidd, M. E. A. McDowell, E. M. Potter, B. E. Tracy, D. I. Brown. Rotorua: J. M. Bowles, F. M. Hyland, K. M. Bevan, J. Coles, L. M. Johnstone, J. M. Cathie, M. J. Kinnear, Shaw, MoDiarmid. Mr Findlay also referred to the appointment of Sister E. Mackay to the position of matron of No. 2 General Military Hospital in England, and to the appointment of Sister E. G. Jenkins as matron of the Tauranga Hospital. Miss Menzies, Mrs H. M. Wilson, Mr J. Banks and Dr. H. L. Gould also congratulated the successful candidates. All the nurses were trained by the hospital tutor, Sister Iris Martin.
