WEDDING

JACOBS—WILLS MAGNOLIA SATIN GOWN A charming wedding was solemnised on the morning of Wednesday, July 10, at St. Barnabas’ Anglican Church, Whatawhata, when Peggy Dorreen, elder daughter of Mr and Mrs H. T. Wills, of Whatawhata, was married to Robert Clive, only son of Mrs W. Jacobs, of New Plymouth. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. V, A. Bianchi, of Frankton, and , Mrs Guthrie played the wedding music. The church had been prettily arranged with spring flowers. The bride, who was given away by her father, wore a lovely gown of magnolia satin cut on princess lines. The bodice was designed with a cowl neckline and at the back was adorned with a row of tiny satin buttons to the waist. The sleeves, which were shirred at the shoulders, tapered to points over the hands, and the close-fitting panelled skirt flared from below the hipline to form an oval train. Over this, from a halo of orange blossom, fell her beautiful embroidered tulle veil, to form a second train. She carried a bouquet of white chrysanthemums, rosebuds, azaleas and asparagus fern. The Bridesmaids In attendance as bridesmaids were Miss Margit Carlinson, and Miss Betty Wills, sister of the bride, who were wearing attractive frocks of cerise and salmon pink taffeta respectively. They were fashioned alike with close-fitting bodices, the necklines and puffed sleeves, of which were trimmed with rows of tiny taffeta frills. Frills also adorned the back of the flared panelled skirts, creating a bustle effect. They wore sprays of flowers to tone with their frocks, in their hair, and carried bouquets of roses and maidenhair fern. The duties of best'man were carried out by Mr Vernon Davison, and the groomsman was Mr Ken Marton. Messrs R. Kempthorne and N. Peterson were the ushers at the church. Following the ceremony, a reception was held at the Whatawhata Hall, which had been attractively decorated with bowls of Iceland poppies. The guests were received by Mrs Wills, who was wearing a navy costume, a cyclamen hat and furs. Her posy was composed of daphne and violets. She was assisted by Mrs C. Carlinson, who was in a black costume, a black hat and furs. She carried a posy of daphne and violets. When Mr and Mrs R. C. Jacobs left for the wedding trip, the bride travelled in a navy tailored suit, a navy hat and a fur stole, the gift of the bridegroom. They will make their home in Te Kowhai.
