ENJOYABLE PICNIC The Waitoa Methodist Sunday school held its annual picnic recently, and a happy time was spent by the children, parents and friends. Games, competitions and events of various kinds were arranged in the school grounds. The superintendent of the Sunday school, Mr P. C. McNeill, expressed thanks to those wlio had assisted. FAREWELL AFTERNOON The staff and children of the Waitoa school assembled recently to bid farewell to one of the teachers, Miss L. McLennan, who has been transferred to Westport. On behalf of the staff and children, Mr A. J. Graham, headmaster, presented her with a crystal salad bowl. He expressed regret at her departure and wished her a bright and happy future. Miss McLennan suitably responded. SCHOOL BREAKS UP The seating capacity of the Waitoa Hall was heavily taxed recently on the occasion of the school break-up ceremony, which took the form of a children’s fancy dress carnival and concert. The function created much interest and the large attendance of parents and friends testified to the popularity of the ceremony. Much credit is due to the headmaster, Mr A. J. Graham, and the teachers. Misses Otto, Martin and McLennan, for the training of the children whose performances throughout were excellent. During the evening Mr A. Skudder, chairman of the school committee, took the opportunity of thanking all who had assisted with the function. The proceeds were in aid of school funds, which will benefit by approximately £2O. Mr Graham thanked Mrs J. Caudwell for her services as accompanist.
