SCHOOL YEAR ENDS
BREAK-UP CEREMONY The pupils of the Maungatautari No. 2 School concluded their school year with a fancy dress parade. Mr Ward and Miss Bowman deserve great credit for the arrangements. Afternoon tea was enjoyed and each child received a gift. The winning fancy dresses were:— Tiny tots (not attending school): Tony Osborne (Little Boy Blue); Kathleen Devonport (Gipsy); Dodo Wiriikeri and George Hinere as bride and bridegroom. Among the older children the following were the prizewinners: Prettiest girl, Dorothy Newcombe (Pierette); ugliest boy, John Hammond (nigger minstrel); best dressed boy from storyland, Peter Dallinger, as Bluebeard; funniest costume, Rahiu Heke, as fairy; most original costume, John Gagen, as “The Farmer and his Burden”; and Peter Sherie, as a cream can; cheapest costume, Russell Wright, 1940 Savage; Jessie Gosnell, “It Pays to Advertise” and Ngaire Peake as “Danger.”
