CHRISTMAS SHOOT GUN CLUB’S EVENT The Christmas shoot or the Cambridge Gun Club was held during the week-end. Coghill, won the Goldfields stars from the Paeroa Club on Saturday. The Paeroa Club has been the holder of the stars for the past four years. The players werfe: Morrinsville, H. 'Herbert, J. SCHOOL YEAR ENDS PRESENTATIONS OF AWARDS There was a large attendance of parents when the Cambridge PrimaTy School held its prize-giving. The school committee chairman, Mr W. R. Garrard, expressed regret at the absence of the headmaster, Mr J. G. Catran, and wished him a speedy recovery from his serious illness. Greetings were extended to the staff, Mr W. Barton, acting-head-master, returning thanks.

The duxes of the school are Josephine Haydon and Gordon Potts who both received special prizes. A special prize presented by Mr R. S. Entwistle, school committee secretary, was won by Jack Fell. Sports trophies were presented as 1 follows:—Herbert Smith cups for | swimming championships, Jack Fell and Joan Dagg; Calvert medal } (steeplechase handicap), Fred Smith; \ points cup for house swimming, 1 Kiwis; Burt medal, 100 yards handi- - cap, Ross Cubis; Ready medal, one mile, Fred Smith. Many swimming certificates were also presented. Nearly all candidates were awarded primary School certificates, which have replaced the proficiency examination for Form 11. Cambridge Secondary School A prize-giving ceremony was held on the lawn at the Cambridge Secondary School. The prizes and certificates were presented by the | Mayoress, Mrs Edgar James. A welcome was extended to visitors by ! the acting-headmaster of this department, Dr. W. H. Entwistle. The prizes presented were:—Ziman Cup for leadership and character, academic attainment and athletic ability, Esther Brown; duxes of school, Maida Cummack and Robert Bryce; special prize for outstanding co-operation and influence for good, Mary Low; fifth form prizes, Olga Skonsgaard, David Hanna, and , Mary Pulmer: fourth form, Beryl Filleul, Russell Fletcher, Francis iMissen; third form, Freda Brown, Robert Lord and Mary Webb: special prize presented by Mr R.
