PERFORMERS’ CLUB

GRAND CHRISTMAS NIGHT j Mr G. Kingston’s studio was trans- j formed into a scene of charm and ! colour on Saturday when the Hamil- J ton Performers’ Club held a most I successful Christmas night. The large number there presented I a gay carnival picture in their colour- j ful fancy costumes and paper hats, j and entering into the spirit of the | occasion with enthusiasm, the true j spirit of Christmas prevailed. j Looped canopies of rainbow j streamers swung over the heads of | the dancers, and from these were i suspended clusters of vivid balloons, j Streamers and balloons were also effectively arranged around the walls j and orchestral dais. In one corner of the studio a large j I Christmas tree was a blaze of colour |

with its decorations of tinsel and festoons. An original feature of the decorations, but a truly Christmas one, was the sprig of mist*?itoe attached to the ceiling. , _ A Christmas cake, made by Mrs H. C. Curling, was enjoyed at suppertime, and a visit from Santa Claus, who distributed gifts among the members added to the success of the | evening. Soldiers Farewelled I The only serious note touched dur- ! ing the evening occurred when the ! president, Mr G. Kingston, on behalf I of every member of the club, bid i “au revoir” to three of the club mem- | bers who are going overseas with the I Special Force. j Dance music was supplied by Mr j W. Whitehead. The following enjoyable programme was presented: Vocal quartet, Mrs W. Whitehead, Miss I. ! Aiken, and Messrs W. Whitehead and j S. Carroll; elocution, Miss Dorothy I Paterson; musical numbers, instrui mental quartet; vocal solos, Mrs C. Wilson; sketches, Mesdames H. Cur- ! ing, W. Whitehead, Misses P. Blake, jL. Swarbrick, T. Molesworth. J. ! Pickering, S. Burton. Messrs J. Chur- | ton, H. Parkes, B. Ross, G. Garvey.
