Y.W.C.A. FUNCTION

MOTHER-DAUGHTER BANQUET A delightful banquet was given by the Girl Citizens for their mothers on Wednesday night at the Y.W.C.A. The room was beautifully decorated with red and white streamers and red roses, everybody being presented with a paper hat made by the girls themselves, which added to the colourfulness of the occasion. Miss Diane Henderson acted as hostess and Miss Joan Gall as toastmistress. Miss Joan Gall proposed the loyal toast, followed by Miss Pat Chestnut who spoke feelingly of the sacrifices made by mothers. Mrs Hebditch replied on behalf of the mothers, and Mrs Gall then proposed the toast to “Our Daughters,” asking them to carry on in spite of conditions at present. Miss Prue Hebditch in replying spoke of the appreciation felt for the mothers. Miss Nina Waite proposed the toast to the Association, speaking of the many happy times. Miss J. Willis, Y.W.C.A. secretary, suitably responded. Delightful Programme Carols and songs were then sung by the girls, the mothers joining in. A delightful recitation by Nina Waite was much appreciated. Two plays were then performed, “Bread” being produced by Miss Avis Tietjens and “Old Moore’s Almanac” by Miss Amy Taylor. The characters in the first play were:—Misses Winnie Adams, Alison Morrow, Dorothy Church, Nina Waite, Launa Kirk and Daphne Johnson, and in the second Misses Jean McKinnon, Pat Chestnut, Prue Hebditch, Pat Cahir and Diane Henderson. Among those present were:—Mesdames Toombs, Gall, Henderson, Hebditch, Johnson, Morrow, Chestnut, Earle, Woodhams, Gilbert, Parsons, Church, Hyde, McKinnon, and Jacka.
