CHRISTMAS FLAMES
Long ago a dazzling star Shone upon the earth, Guiding strangers from afar To greet their Savior’s birth. At a manger, tenderly, Kings and shepherds knelt, Gifts they brought and prayers maybe. For every heart to melt. Again we keep the ancient feast In our modern way. The star of wonder in the East Still guides us with love’s ray. The loving thoughts that banish care Bum bright on Christmas morn, For rich or poor, we all may share The love of Christ newborn. And on our troubled world today, Dear Lord of Life above, Shed holy light upon our way To kindle fires of love. Lead nations wisely, free from blame, Let wrangling tongues be mute, Give beauty words, make love our aim And peace—our absolute. —MAUD MALLET.
