OFFENCES AGAINST GIRL

HUNTLY MAN SENTENCED RUNNING OF SUNDAY SCHOOL (Special to Times) AUCKLAND, Thursday A sequel to a story of a violent assault which was alleged to have occurred in a Huntly cafe on the morning of November 21 came in the Supreme Court today, when Charles Kitchener Blackmoore, aged 22, appeared before Mr Justice Ostler for sentence on charges of unlawful carnal knowledge and indecent assault on a girl 13 years of age. Prisoner, who was not represented by counsel, told His Honour that he had learned his lesson, and if he could start again he would go straight. His Honour said the evidence showed that there had been a long course of interference with this girl of 13. The prisoner was young, but quite old enough to know that he ought to protect such a girl. “You are a young fellow who professes to be anxious to help young people,” His Honour continued. “You organised what was called a ‘Friendly Road Sunday School’ at Huntly, to which 79 children used to go; and while you were running this school you were carrying on this criminal intercourse with this girl, who was one of your Sunday School pupils. Our children require protection from that sort of conduct.” His Honour committed prisoner to a Borstal institution for a period not exceeding two years.
