THE WHEAT MARKET
KECORD PRICES OBTAINED (United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyright) CHICAGO, December 13. Wheat sold at over a dollar for the first time since October, 1937. It rose 5 cents on ihe crest of the biggest buying wave since the war. The closing prices were 4 to 4| cents up. There was heavy profit taking, cutting part of the gains. December wheat closed at 102 cents, the best price for two years. Killer Whale’s Fate After cruising in the Hauraki Gulf and later entering the Auckland Harbour over the past week, a killer whale became stranded and died on a mud-bank about a mile and ahalf off the shore .at Point Chevalier. About 12ft in length, the whale was black, with a prominent mouth and large, almost ungainly fins. While whales of this type, which are regarded as savage and ruthless hunters, are common in the Antarctic, they are not frequent visitors to Auckland waters.
