COSTLY LOADING METHOD
TELESCOPED CARCASES HIGH NIGHT SHIFT WAGES (By Telegraph.—Press Association) ASHBURTON, Thursday Discussing the telescoping of carcases Mr D. J. Shea, general manager of the Canterbury Frozen Meat Company, said the process could not be carried out until the animal heat had gone out of the carcase, necessitating a night shift, for which wages were very high. Recently men at the Fairfield freezing works received £3 for a night’s work, working out at 4d a carcase. An endeavour is to be made to induce the Government to allow the night shift to be worked on the same terms as a day shift.
