STEADY RAIN
FIRST FOR WEEKS WELCOMED BY FARMERS The first steady rain for several weeks commenced falling in Hamilton last night, and although only light it fell almost continuously throughout this morning, .42in being recorded for the 24 hours ended 9 a.m. Coming at a time when pastures and gardens were beginning to show the effects of a spell of hot weather, the fall was particularly welcome.
Almost immediately gardens have taken on a refreshed appearance and flowers which were beginning to wilt have been revived. With the driest summer months still ahead, rain in November is always of great benefit to dairyfarmers, as pasture growth must be well maintained to support cows as they approach the period of their highest yield. Hay paddocks should show improvement from the warm rain and better crops than were indicated some weeks ago should be harvested. FALL IN CAMBRIDGE (Special to Times) CAMBRIDGE, Friday The unusually long dry spell in this time of the year was ended in Cambridge in the early hours of this morning, when a steady warm lain began to fall. The rain, as one amateur gardener remarked, “was worth its weight in gold.” Growth, especially of the pastures, had been checked, and if the rain continues it will do incalculable good.
