WEDDING

ELLERY—LATHAM EMBOSSED WEDDING GOWN The Matamata Presbyterian Church was the scene of a pretty wedding on Saturday, October 28, when Isobel Joyce, third daughter of Mrs Latham and the late Mr A. T. Latham, of Matamata, was married to Mervyn Charles, only son of Mr and Mrs S. Ellery, of Matamata. The Rev. J. H. Combes officiated at the ceremony, and Miss Joyce Cowley presided at the organ. The bride, who was given away by Mr J. Cowley, wore a graceful gown of cream silk embossed with roses. The bodice was shirred, and the basque was finished with taffeta bows at the back, and the full skirt fell to form a circular train. An exquisite veil of hand-embroidered cream tulle was worn over the face, and was held in place by a top-knot of orange blossom. A bouquet of cream roses, azaleas, and maidenhair fern was carried. The Attendants In attendance as bridesmaids were Misses Eileen and Yulene Latham, sisters of the bride. Miss E. Latham wore a dainty frock of petunia lace over taffeta, fashioned in crinoline design, and a poke bonnet. Miss Y. Latham wore a similar frock of green 1 ace and each bridesmaid carried a bouquet of cyclamen azaleas, roses and maidenhair fern. Mr J. Cobb acted as best man, and the duties of groomsman were carried out by Mr R. Hastings. The Temataruru Rover Scouts, of which the bridegroom is a member, formed a guard of honour as the bridal couple left the church. Following the ceremony, a reception was held at the Rialto, where Mrs Latham, assisted by Mrs Ellery, received the guests. The bride’s mother wore a becoming gown of teal green crepe suede, with a fur stole and London tan accessories. Mrs Ellery was wearing a smart ensemble of dusky pink craquelle, with wine accessories.

When Mr and Mrs M. C. Ellery left on their wedding trip, the bride travelled in a teal tailored costume worn with a fur stole and mulberry accessories.
