WOMEN’S GOLF

ST. ANDREWS’ CLOSING DAY PRESENTATION OF TROPHIES The Hamilton Ladies’ Golf Club was fully compensated for any inconvenience it may have suffered during the past season at the hands of the weather, by a brilliantly fine day yesterday, for its closing function, when there was a very large gathering of members. A four-ball best-ball competition was played during the day, the winners being Miss V. Cann and Miss E. Wright. Prior to the presenting of the trophies, which made a particularly attractive display, Mrs N. H. Hooker, president, in a short speech, remarked on the successful year the club had experienced and on the harmony which had existed between the members. She tendered thanks to the donors of the trophies and congratulated the prize-winners on their attainments. Successful Golfers The prize-winners were as follows: Senior championship: Mrs A. H. McDonald; runner-up, Mrs B. Seyb. Junior championship: Mrs V. D. Edwards; runner-up, Mrs H. Toombs. Gillies Vase: Mrs R. Pearson; run-ner-up, Mrs A. T. James. Douglas Cup: Mrs V. D. Day, retiring club captain, who was the recipient of a lovely box of flowers. Mrs Day suitably replied. Votes of thanks were also passed to Mrs G. Primrose, the retiring secretary, on whose efficiency the president made eulogistic comment, and to the retiring committee.

Election of Officers

Following the presentation of the trophies the annual general meeting took place, the officers elected for 1940 being as follows:—Patron, Mrs Hugh Douglas (re-elected); president, Mrs N. H. Hooker (re-elected); vice-president, Mrs W. J. King (reelected); captain, Mrs C. O. Bennett; Mrs A. E. McCracken, Mrs R. Worley, Mrs W. Waring, Mrs Gordon, Smith, Mrs T. G. Reynolds and Miss J. Littleproud.

The members were then entertained by the club to afternoon tea in the lounge, which was attractively arranged with bowls of irises, rhododendrons and roses.
