KITCHEN EVENING

ST. JAMES’ LADIES’ GUILD Miss Min. Sutherland and Mr Len McDonagh, who are shortly to be married, were the guests-of-honour recently, at a kitchen evening arranged by the St. James’ Ladies’ Guild and Bible Class, and held in the church hall, Frankton. The evening took the form of a social, consisting of competitions and games, interspersed with various items, and a happy time was spent. Vocal solos by Miss Muriel Paley, pianoforte solos by Mr Elwin Haywood, humorous numbers by Mr Ted Saunders, and vdtal duets by Mrs I. Hayward and Miss M. Walters were much enjoyed. Mr E. Hayward was the accompanist. After the serving of supper, Sister Nichols and Mr Kilham both spoke briefly of the help Miss Sutherland and Mr McDonagh had given in the work of the church. Miss Hilda Sylvester then presented them with a beautiful silver cake-dish on behalf of the Bible Class and Mr Les Missen asked them to accept the many gift parcels, with the good wishes of all present. Mr McDonagh suitably replied on behalf of himself and Miss Sutherland and they were accorded musical honours. Those present were:—Mesdames Sutherland (Te Aroha), McDonagh, H. McDonagh, McFadden, Bartrum, Haywood, Sylvester, Kilham, Waite, Oats, Parker, Haynes, T. Shaw (Matangi), McCauley, I. Haywood, Paley, Black, Green, Henneker, Croskery. Misses Dossie Cameron, Min. Sutherland, Hilda Sylvester, Rita Griffiths, Beth McLean, Bertha Sylvester, Edna Paley, Edna Waite. Murtle Parkinson, Muriel Paley, Tina Peace, Phyllis Turner, Grace Parkinson, Mavis Carter, Mavis Shaw (Matangi), Lorna Duncan, Gwen East, E. Pittnin.
