CABLES IN CODE

PRIVILEGE AS FROM MONDAY TO UNITED KINGDOM ONLY The Chief Postmaster, Hamilton, advises that as from Monday, October 2, cable messages in code may be exchanged with the United Kingdom. The following published codes only ifiay be used:—Bentley's Second Phrase, Bentley’s Complete Phrase, A.8.C., sixth edition, Peterson's Third Edition. Only one of the foregoing authorised codes may be used in any one cablegram. The name of the code must be written in the service instructions by the sender, but no charge will be made for the transmission of such information. Senders must supply the translation written on the back of the form or on a separate sheet of paper when the telegram is handed in. The translation, when on a separate sheet, is to be kept pinned to the telegram to which it refers. The use of numerical equivalents or spare word editions for framing a private code is not permitted. All messages written in code language must be capable of being so decoded as to have a meaning clear to the Censor. In the meantime the exchange of

messages in' the codes mentioned is confined to the United Kingdom. To avoid delay, code messages should be lodged as early in the day as possible. The use of code addresses and code signatures is not permitted in the meantime.
