EXPORTERS WORRIED

REFUSAL OF PERMITS SEEDS, TALLOW AND HIDES (Special to Times.) CHRISTCHURCH, Friday Christchurch exporters of seeds, taUpw, hides and pelts are worried because they are unable to secure export permits'for a large proportion of their orders. They state that a vessel which called at Lyttelton last week to load pelts for eastern American ports was compelled to go on to Dunedin without loading much of the cargo which was intended for her. This cargo was left in trucks because export licences were refused. Merchants say they can see no reason for the refusal of licences. All the formalities were complied with, and the only answer which the Customs Department would give to inquiries was that it was unable to give the necessary permission to export. The merchants’ complaint was referred to the Minister of Customs, the Hon. W. Nash, this evening, and he replied:—“l know nothing of the details mentioned. I only know we are making sure that the United Kingdom knows first what stocks we have land that the United Kingdom does not require them.” The export of all seeds except fescue, browntop and suckling clover is banned in the meantime, and this has again meant that large orders for America are as yet unfulfilled.
