IMPORTANT MEASURES END EXPECTED BY THURSDAY TAXATION BILL APPEARS (By Telegraph.—Special to Times) WELLINGTON, Friday By passing four Bills at its daylight sitting today the House of Representatives cleared the way for the consideration of important legislation which has to be dealt with before the session can end. The House sat 30 minutes beyond its normal rising hour on Friday, in order to clear the Order Paper of the last of these measures, the Land Laws Amendment Bill. All the morning was occupied with the Social Security Amendment Bill, which was dealt with by the Legislative Council in the afternoon. The other two Bills passed were the Rural Housing Bill and the Pharmacy Bill (No. 2). Before the adjournment was taken for the usual week-end break until Tuesday, the acting-Prime Minister, the Hon. P. Fraser, expressed the hope that it would be possible to finish the remaining business of the session by Thursday. Important amendments to the taxation law were made by legislation introduced immediately the House resumed after the luncheon adjournment. This Bill, which will apply to income derived during the current income year, will be discussed on Tuesday. It limits the insurance and .-superannuation deduction for taxation purposes to £l5O, provides for the aggregation of the incomes of married couples for the assessment of taxation, allows land tax levied on land used for the production of assessable income to be claimed as a deduction, and contains a large number of other clauses of interest to all classes of taxpayers. The House rose at 6 p.m. until Tuesday.
