SUCCESSFUL BALL
TF.NNIS CLUB OPENS Arranged by the committee of the Tirau Tennis Club a most successful “Opening Ball” was held in the Tirau Town Hall this week. The guests, who numbered 300, included visitors from Rotorua and Hamilton as well as representatives from other tennis clubs in the Waikato. The hall had been appropriately decorated with crossed nikau palms round the walls, a tennis net across the front of the stage and masses of bamboo foliage at the back. The name of the club, in imposing lettering in front of the orchestral dais, was another dominant feature of the decorations. Exceiient music was played by Epi Shalfoon and his orchestra from Auckland and novelty dances added greatly to the amusement of the evening. Mrs T. McNab, of Matamata, was the winner of a competition and Messrs N. L. Andersen and M. Thomas were in charge of the floor arrangements.
