ENJOYABLE PARTY A very enjoyable evening was held at the residence of Mrs M. J. Dixon, Pirongia, recently, when games, competitions and singing formed the main part of the entertainment and created a great deal of amusement. PRESENTATION MADE An evening was held at Mr Buchanan’s residence, Pirongia, in honour of Mr S. J. Parr, who is shortly to be married. During the evening card games, competitions and singing were enjoyed. Miss L. Wellington, of Te Awamutu, supplied excellent music. Messrs Buchanan and Eric Miller spoke in appreciative terms of the guest of the evening, and Mr Miller, on behalf of Mr Parr’s many friends, presented him with a beautiful chiming clock. Mr Parr suitably returned thanks. Supper was served by the hostess, Miss Gwen Buchanan. CARD EVENING A most enjoyable card party was held in the library at Pirongia recently in aid of the Anglican Church funds. Mrs E. C. Beet and Mr S. Bell were the prizewinners in the five hundred tournament. The evening concluded with the serving of supper. BADMINTON MATCH A friendly match took place in the Pirongia Memorial Hall on Thursday night when members of St. John s Church (Te Awamutu) played the Pirongia Badminton Club. The result was a win for St. John’s after a close and exciting match, the score being 7—5. Playing for Te Awamutu were Misses N. Potts, E. Palmer, Schofield and Broadfoot and Messrs A. and H. Empson, Barnett and W. Hartstone. 'The players for Pirongia were Mrs Shaw, Mrs White, Misses S. Bell and Wallis and Messrs E. Randall, D. Rowan, T. Parkes and J. Parkes. SALE OF WORK A successful sale of work, organised by the committee of the Pirongia Ladies’ Croquet Club, was held in the Memorial Hall recently. As the date synchronised with the monthly cattle sale, the afternoon tea tables did good work. Those in charge of various departments were as follows:—Afternoon tea, Mesdames Boggiss, McNaughten and A. Chappell; sales tables, Mesdames W. H. Bell, Wall and Chappell, sen.; competitions, Mesdames Berry and Du Frense. Competitions were won by Miss Gloria Ormsby, Mr Maurice Dixon and Master Murray Livingstone.
