LYCEUM CLUB
HARD-UP SOCIAL INTERESTING TRAVEL TALK A jolly “ hard-up ” evening was held by the Lyceum Club in the lounge last night, when junior members were entertained with an original and interesting programme which had been prepared by Mrs Hugh Douglas. The lounge was looking particularly attractive with its bright new cushions and bowls of red anemones, blossom and golden freesias. The first competition, which was rather a test of agility, was won by Mrs T. A. Burtenshaw, while much amusement was caused by the untimely collapse of the “ Australian drill squad.” Mrs F. Bullock gave a most interesting talk on her recent trip through Java and held her audience enthralled with her very descriptive account of places visited and her amusing experiences. Mrs H. Livingstone, Mrs M. C. Stranger and Miss Lindsay Kendrick gained equal points in the next competition. A recitation by Miss Rosalie Seddon provided a happy interlude before the next item on the programme, which was a spelling bee, the winners being Miss Lindsay Kendrick and Miss Rosalie Seddon.
