M.P. FOR SERVICE
MR J. B. COTTERILL ENLISTS COUNCIL MAJORITY LOST (By Telegraph.—Press Association) WANGANUI, Monday Mr J. B. Cotterill, the Labour M.P. for Wanganui, is among those who have enlisted in the New Zealand force for service at home or overseas. Among those passed for service are Mr C. N. Armstrong, a Wanganui city councillor; Mr F. R. Chittey, district manager of the State Advances Corporation : Mr L. E. Northover, a Wanganui representative Rugby player; Mr J. G. Farrell, a noted horse trainer; Mr C. L. Pleasants, of the Wanganui Collegiate School; Mr J. A. Woolford, a teacher at the Aramoho public school; Mr R. Hunter, a son of Mr “Jimmy" Hunter, the 1905 All Black, and a Wanganui representative Rugby player; and Mr A. D. W. Woolcott, a master at Wanganui Technical College. Consequent on the acceptance of Mr Armstrong, the Citizens’ League majority on the city council disappears. Labour and Citizens are now at equal strength, with six members of each and the Labour Mayor, Mr W. J. Rogers, having the balance of power through his casting vote.
