HOUSEHOLD HINTS
Polishing between prongs of forks is made easy by using an ordinary pipe cleaner for the purpose. Lemon juice can be used as an emergency shoe polish for black or brown shoes. If ink stains on the fingers are rubbed with vinegar before the hands are washed they will disappear. A few drops of ammonia added to the water when washing pantry shelves will help to keep ants away. Before using a brass kettle which has been put away for any length of time, it should be cleaned out with salt and vinegar. Old-fashioned iron skillets are better for frying than bright lightweight frying pans. They hold the heat better and cook more evenly.
To clean ebony piano keys, rub with a warm llonnel over which a little olive oil has been sprinkled. Polish with a chamois.
