WAIKATO WINTER SHOW EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE MEETS NATIVE TREES DONATED "It is a very satisfactory state of affairs when, in spite of higher wages i and other increased costs, a profit of j £913 is to be recorded on the last | show," said Mr F. Bullock, president j of the Waikato Winter Show Association, when speaking at a meeting of the executive committee of the Association to-day. The secretary, Mr W. 11. Paul, stated that the door receipts for tne 1939 show, at Is admission were £3025, compared with £1705 collected at the Palmerston North Show, which charged Is 6d admission. With an admission charge of Is, the Dunedin Show collected £ISOO. A vote of thanks to the Y.M.C.A. for the use of its building to house members of the special agricultural school, which was conducted at the show, was passed, and appreciation was also expressed to oftlcers of the Y.M.C.A., who assisted with the health and fitness display at the show. Mr Paul stated that letters of appreciation had already been sent to the judges, and others who had assisted with the show. Arrangements in connection with the association’s building plans were discussed by the meeting, and it was decided that the matter be referred to the building committee. Planting of Trees Mr Paul said that 60 native trees had been donated to the Domain Board by the association and it was proposed that they should be planted in suitable places by nurses from the Waikato Hospital. The matter was left in Mr Paul’s hands. A letter was received from Mr M. James offering a trophy for the annual musical and dramatic competitions at the show, and the donation was accepted with thanks. In response to inquiries it was decided to include a section on hometanned leather in one of the schedules for the next show.
