FAREWELL EVENING The popularity of Mr and Mrs B. McKenzie in the Tirau district was shown by the large attendance at a farewell evening in the local town hall last week. For many years Mr McKenzie has been assistant engineer to the Matamata County Council and has now accepted a position as engineer to the Otorohanga County Council. The evening took the form of a dance interspersed with much-enjoyed conjuring items by Mr Alec Law. The dance music was supplied by Mrs T. Cotter. Sonia Wilson presented Mrs McKenzio with a beautiful bouquet. After the supper interval Mr L. Watkins, master of ceremonies, escorted the guests of the evening to the stage where, on behalf of their many Tirau friends, he presented them with a handsome china cabinet, and offered them best wishes for their future success. On behalf of the County Council staff, Mr and Mrs McKenzie received a handsome clock. From the Tirau Sunday School, Mrs McKenzie was presented with a crystal vase and a posy. In presenting the latter Merle Naysmith extended the best wishes of the members. The committee responsible for the organisation of the function comprised : Mesdames G. Wilson, E. Brownlie, S. J. Bear, Chaytor. Litchfield, Bob Wear, T. Bottomley, Miss Joyce Houghton ably, assisted the committee. Among those present were:—Pilcher, W. Amoore, Fitzgerald, McKenzie (Thames) ; J. McKernan, F.
