POINT=TO=POINT RACES
WAIKATO HUNT CLUB FIXTURE A light breeze blowing, with warm spring sunshine favoured those who attended the Waikato Hunt Club’s Point-to-Point races on Saturday, the setting being perfect for the good afternoon's sport provided by big Helds contesting well fought finishes. Held annually at Fencourt over a good course on the property of Mr A. J. Swayne, the fixture this year, was, owing to petrol restrictions, not so well attended as in previous years, although enthusiasts to the number of two or three hundred made the journey from Cambridge, Hamilton, and surounding districts. Feminine apparel for the most part, followed the trend of tweeds and spring flannels in sports clothes and tailored suits. Presentation of Trophies When the presentation of trophies brought the day’s events to a conclusion, the Master of the Waikato Hunt, Mr Wynn Brown, who was assisted in presenting the trophies by Miss Rhoda Brown, made special reference to the success of Miss Peter Gorrie whose hunter, Whistling Rufus, had won both the ladies’ open race and the open steeplechase, the two big events of the programme. Mrs A. J. Swayne whose hospitality, in putting her home at the disposal of many of the officials is very much appreciated by those concerned, was presented with a framed coloured photograph of hounds and riders following the master on the hills at “Xgalieke.” Among those enjoying the afternoon's sport were:— Mesdames A.
