FAREWELL EVENING

HANDSOME MAORI GIFTS A very pleasant evening was recently spent at the home of Mr T. Aubrey, Taupiri, the occasion being a farewell to Mr and Mrs <F. 11. Durbridge and their daughter, Mrs N. J. Dougherty, who are shortly leaving the district. The Waahi Pa Maori orchestra rendered musical items, and Mrs Dougherty sang delightfully, Miss Betty Parkes being the accompanist. During the evening, King Koroki, on behalf of the Maori residents, spoke in glowing terms of the many kindnesses shown by *the guests-of-honour to the Maoris in Taupiri and presented to Mr Durbridge a handsome carved Ma-ori axe, to Mrs Durbridge an inlaid greenstone mere, and to Mrs Dougherty a lovely Maori mat.
