JERSEY BULL FAIR

BIG NATIONAL FIXTURE AUCTION AT CLAUDELANDS The 1939 National Jersey show and sale will be held at the Claudelands Showgrounds on Wednesday and Thursday, when 190 selected bulls from 53 of the leading studs of Taranaki, Manawatu, North and South Auckland, Waikato, Wairarapa, llorowhenua, King Country, Poverty 'Bay, Bay of Plenty and Nelson districts will be on offer. The offering is reported to be one of the best in the history of the sale for butterfat backing, high classification of dams and close relationship to noted prize-winners and producers. A most interesting point in connection with this year’s sale is that although four sections are provided for in the conditions of entry, each section being determined on a butterfat basis, 175 bulls of the total of 191 qualify for section 1 and the balance for section 2. This is significant of the quality of the offering when it is understood that there is no sale held in any part of the world where the conditions of entry are so strict. Inspection System The national sale is held under conditions which provide all possible protection to the buyer, for, in addition to requiring high butterfat backing, every bull is submitted before an inspection committee consisting of members of the classification committee of the New Zealand Jersey Cattle Breeders’ Association, and is passed for type, condition and development. In addition, every bull is guaranteed a breeder. Nearly every bull in the catalogue is of sufficiently high standard to head stud herds, but owners of grade herds also widely patronise this sale, and it will be readily appreciated that bulls of quality suitable for pedigree herds must have a very strong influence on -grade herds. The auctioneers will be Wright, Stephenson and Co., Ltd.
