HAMILTON COMPETITION TECHNICAL DEFEAT OLD BOYS KAIPAKI’S FIRST WIN Both games in the Hamilton senior hockey competition for the Killip Memorial Shield at the Showgrounds on Saturday were marked by hard and fast play. Kaipaki, determined on registering its first win, outplayed Colts, who at no time looked like being a dangerous side. The main attracton was the match between Old Technicals and Old Boys, both of whom had not suffered defeat this season. However, Old Technicals, after being battered by the steady Old Boys' attack, rallied towards the end and was victorious by a margin of three goals.

KAIPAKI’S FIRST SUCCESS

COLTS EASILY DEFEATED TUNE UP THREE GOALS TO ONE Although without the services of Its goalie, Smillie, Kaipaki had no difficulty in disposing of the weak Colts eleven. The country team displayed better form throughout and its first victory this season was to the tune of three goals to one. Kaipaki revealed better positional play than Colts and the latter was particularly erratic with its circle work. The teams were:— Colts: O’Hara, Clark, Hansen, Mackley, Clough, Bockell, Curteis, Bogue, Perrett, McKibbin, Christie. Kaipaki: Boyd, Goodwin, Farrell, Boyd, McCarthy, Boyd, Bones, Graham, Ganley, Uddy. Kaipaki’s first goal came from a flank movement when Bones, receiving the ball in the centre ol' the field, goaled with little difficulty. Kaipaki 1, Colts 0. A penalty corner to Kaipaki saw Colts frustrate its attacking movement and break away. However, uddy on the wing received the ball l'roin a forward tussle and carried it into the circle and beat Clark with a bal’d hit. Kaipaki 2, Colts 0. Colts’ only goal came from a penalty bully, a down-field rush by Colls saw Goodwin fall on the ball and the resulting penalty to the attacking team gave Perrett Hie opportunity to goal. Kaipaki 2, Colts 1. The final point to Kaipaki was notched by G. Boyd when, in a solo effort, lie took the hall from well out into the circle. O'Hara made two brilliant saves, but eventually Boyd beat him with a flick shot. * Kaipaki 3, Coits 1.

OLD BOYS’ GALLANT ATTEMPT MARGIN OF THREE GOALS Old Technicals left no doubt of its superior play when it defeated Old Boys by five goals to two. In spite of a gallant attempt to keep its opponents out of the circle, Old Bovs could not overcome'’the deadly attack from the Technical front line. At one stage if. did appear that Old Boys would come close to winning, but towards the end there was no doubt of the decision. fi'he teams were:— Uld Technicals: Puck, McKinnon, Clark, Taylor, Jenkins. Snell, Sage, lloff, Powdriil, Floyd, Forster. Old Boys: Sutherland, Pountney, Broadbent, McKinnon, Richardson, White, Jacka, West, Ewan. Davies, Chard. A shot at goal from & short corner failed, but the ball was kept in the circle and Powdriil penetrated the defence with a successful hit. Uld Technicals 1, Old Boys 0. However, Technical gained its opponent’s circle, where Hoff pelted with a hard swing of the stick. Uld Technicals 2, Old ‘Boys 0. Once again Technical pressed and this time Powdriil goaled.
