SITE APPROVED

RUKUHIA AERODROME MINISTER’S STATEMENT Complete approval of Rukuhia as the site for the Waikato airport was expressed to-day by the Minister of Public Works, the Hon. R. Semple, after a visit to the aerodrome. The Minister said the question of drainage and grading would have to be gone Into so that local bodies could be advised of the cost of extensions. An outline of the activities of the Waikato Aero Club was given by Mr C. B. Smith, who explained that until recently the club had received no Government assistance but on its own resources had trained over 100 pilots. “We may want the aerodrome for defence in which case the field would have to be brought up to a condition to stand any type of machine,” added the Minister who gave his assurance that the preparatory work would be pursued ahead.
