CLAUDELANDS COURSE
IMPROVED FACILITIES COMPREHENSIVE SCHEME PLANS TO BE CONSIDERED A comprehensive scheme for the provision of better training facilities at Claudelands, submitted by the Waikato Trotting Owners, Trainers and Breeders’ Association, was considered at a meeting of the committee of the Waikato Trotting Club last evening and a conference is to be called between the Trotting Club, the Agricultural and Pastoral Association and Polo Association to go fully into the question. The scheme, which provides for inside grass and dirt tracks, will, if finalised, remove much of the dissatisfaction in evidence among trainers over the past several seasons and provide facilities for training equal to the best in New Zealand.
Trotting is increasing in popularity in the Waikato and the Claudelands course is recognised as one of the finest grass tracks in the country. With increased training facilities horses will be attracted to Hamilton and this popular branch of sport further encouraged. Plans and estimates of cost have been prepared by Mr R. Howell, assistant engineer to the Waikato County Council, who was responsible for the improved lay-out of the Waipa Racing Club's course at Te Awamutu.
