Hitler’s Book, “Mein Kampf” An unexpurgated edition of “Mein Kampf,” Herr Hitler’s famous book, is to be published in Britain in March. Never Seen the Sea A child 11 years of age who has never seen the sea, and who lives in a Main Trunk centre, has applied to the Wanganui Education Board for admission to the Children's Health Camp. Death in Hospital Mr Herbert Anscombe, married, who was among the injured when the lorry he was driving crashed into a telegraph pole near Stony Creek, South Otago, on February 15, died in the Balclutha Hospital yesterday afternoon. Mr Anscombe resided at Clyvevale.
Kicked By Horse Mr Alfred Strange (28), married, a farm hand, employed by Mr D. Fleming, Tuhikaramea, was kicked by a horse last evening and was admitted to the Waikato Hospital suffering from injuries to the back. His condition this morning was stated to be satisfactory.
Mayor Insured Because of the risk to the life of the Mayor of Runanga, Mr R. McTaggart, while he is acting as testing officer for motor-driving licenses, in an honorary capacity, an insurance policy will be taken out by the Runanga Borough Council on Mr McTaggart’s life. This was a decision reached at a meeting of the council.
Idle and Disorderly Appearing before Mr S. L. Paterson, S.M., in the Hamilton Magistrate’s Court to-day on a charge of being idle and disorderly, Francis Claudlins Pollock, alias Edwin Henry Jarvis (53), busbman and labourer of Gisborne, was convicted and ordered to come up for sentence if called upon within three months.
Strengthening Defences “Our fundamental duty is to sec that we have contributed in our time our quota to the protection of the liberties enjoyed in our democratic Empire and to see that our heritage is not infringed or jeopardised,” said the Hon. tR. House Removal The fifth house from Garden Plaoe Hill was removed by the contractors, Messrs G. Rhodes and Sons, last night and this morning was taken to its new site on the Great South Road, near tho frog pond dump. A little delay was incurred as one of the bogeys sank into the pavement when left at t »e edge of the property. Only tv;o other houses on the hill remain to be removed. Pinned Beneath Car Mr Alex Taueki (34), married, dairy factory employee, suffered severe and extensive injuries when a tyre blow-out overturned the car he was driving on the New PlymouthOpunake highway near Oakura yesterday morning. Miss Daisy Hikierera (17), a passenger, who was pinned beneath the vehicle, and Mrs Kimi Paora (31), of Puniho, were also injured. Prisoner Re-captured Raymond Patrick Letton (32), who has been at large a month after escaping from the cells at Auckland has been arrested in Welliington. He was originally taken into custody in Auckland on* January 22 on a charge of unlawfully converting a motor-car to his own use, and he will appear at Auckland on that charge. On that day he escaped from the cells, after scaling a high wall. A.R.P. In Auckland A provisional scheme of air raid precautions and emergency organisation for the Auckland metropolitan area was approved by a conference of local authorities and other public, interests held in the Auckland Town Hall last night. After having tli* scheme explained by the Mayor, Sir Ernest Davis, the conference appointed an executive committee to formulate a policy, to take full control of the scheme, and to appoint various technical committees to deal with different aspects of the plan. £3IOO Damages Awarded Special damages of £B5l and general damages of £2250 were awarded Percy J. Morris, of Whangamomona, by a jury in the Supreme Court at New Plymouth yesterday in an action against Edgar R. Putt, of Otakeho, as a result of an accident at Tokaora about, 2£ years ago. The jury found that the other defendant in the action, Alexander Riley, of Ngatca, Thames, did not contribute to the accident. Judgment was entered for Morris. Maori Hostel Donations At the complimentary social in the Winter Show concert hall last evening in honour of the delegates attending the New Zealand Federated Builders and Contractors’ Association's annual conference a mock court, with Mr A. Gordon (president of the Hamilton Sub-Contractors’ Association: as prosecutor, was conducted, ■charges were preferred against a number of builders and the fines, together with a number of donations, totalling £7 2s, were devoted to the fund for the erection of a Maori hostel in Hamilton.
