TE RAPA TRACKS

TRIALS FOR TE AROHA DE FRIEND KENA PLEASE MALAGIGI IN GOOD HEART (By “Martian") The course proper, about 25ft. out from ihe rails, and the plough were available for galloping at Te llapa this morning and several useful trials were credited to candidates with engagements at the Te Aroha meeting, which opens on Saturday. Beth tracks provided fast going, the best efforts of the morning were those of De Friend and Kona over a round on the grass and Malagigi over a circuit on the plough. Another feature of the mo-n----iniy was a brilliant three-furlong sprint by the unrtced four : year-old Rosemae.

On the course proper, Rothoon McKenzie) ran five furlongs in 1.8, the fTrst half-mile In 5345. Kittle (Ensor), who is to contest Jumping events at the Te Aroha fixture, strode over a round In 2.6 1-5, and in view of the fact that she was loafing In the early stages the effort was a commendal*e one and she should strip in good fettle for engagements aheaa.

Midland (Telford), who is maintaining his condition well, hit out over five furlongs in I*o 1-5. Midland ran consistently at the recent Waikato fixture and may enter the winning lists at Te Aroha.

Susan Over Beven

Susan (C. McKenzie) got to the end of seven furlones in 1.37, her initial five furlongs occupying 1.9*. Susan has benefited by racing at the recent meeting and may be seen to better advantage soon. Tosh (Watson), who seldom looked better than at present, was under a firm hold over the first half-mile of five furlongs, speeding up over the final furlong to run this section in 12s. Tosh is engaged among the sprinters at Te Aroha and is not without good prospects. Stansted (Long), who is to make a reappearance amont? the hurdlers on Saturday after a spell, was timed to run once round in 2.3*, a useful effort for a horse of his class. While he may need a race this member of the Tutchen establishment will have to be respected in immediate engagements. After working round to the ffvefurlong peg Miss Clipper (Long) ran her final half-mile in 52 i-ss. She is making good progress. A Brilliant Three Furlongs The four-year-old unraced Surveyor mare, Rosemae (Conroy) sprinted three furlongs along the back in 355. She ran her first furlong in 114-ss, the second in il.l-5s and was pulling up over the last furlong, which occupied 12s. It was the fastest trial over the distance recorded on the local track for some time. De Friend (Thomson) and Ke-na (Long) were associated over a round and finished practically on terms in 2.1 4-5. Both executed their work well and Kena gave the impression that he is definitely improved as the result of recent racing. The balance of the morning’s work was done on the plough.

Rollicker (Goulsbro) ran half a mile in 51 l-ss, time on which he could have improved. He has taken no harm- from exertions at the local meeting and promises to strip in splendid fettle for racing at Te Aroha.

Diversity (Ensor) ran an easy halfmile in 565. The. best half-mile of the morning on this track was that of the improving Meadow (McKenzie) and Friskland (light boy), who recorded 50 2-3 s. Meadow, who narrowly missed a place in the Eureka Handicap on the lu-Ler day of the Waikato meeting, will bear watching in pending engagements.

Condition of Malagigi Malagigi (Goulsbro) impressed by the manner in which he was revelling in his work over the concluding stages of a round in 1.49 4-5. Malagigi is to fulfill his engagement in the Herries Memorial Cup and should show to better advantage than was the case at le Rapa. Awhiowhio (Long) and Te Morehu (M’Kcii/.ie) were companions over a round but were easing up to a walk at the end in 1.54*.

Sergia, who is looking a picture of condition, worked usefully over a couple of rounds. An interesting schooling exhibition was given by Mio Fratollo (H. Turney), who after jumping four pony fences, was sent over four flights of the major obstacles and acquitted himself well for a novice at the game.
