SMALL STEER ENTRY
STOCK VALUES AT FRANKTON GOOD INQUIRY FOR BEEF The smallest entry of steers seen at the yards this year was on offer at Frankton to-day when values remained fully firm at late quotations. The pennings included ’better quality sorts than last week and prices per head were consequently in advance, although values on a per pound basis were much the same. To-day's to-p price of £l4 paid for a heavy Polled Angus bullock was the highest at the yards for some weeks.
The cows and heifers forward were also of better quality and this had the effect of stimulating inquiries for top lines with the result that late quotations were repeated. In several instances the vendors received slightly better money.
Fat sheep met with a fair inquiry but inferior sheep were difficult to quit. Although in some cases values appeared to be slightly lower, the market on the whole was firm. Lambs sold readily at full schedule rates, while a few lines of woolly wethers sold lo 23s 6d. Fat pigs did not meet with the same good inquiries as last week and values were a shade\ lower.
