MATCH WITH BCHOOLBOYS REACHING HAMILTON TO-DAY (Special to Times) AUCKLAND, Tuesday In their opening match in the Dominion Sir Julien Gahn's team at Eden Park yesterday had lost eight wickets for 286 at stumps against a combined secondary schools’ eleven. The latter were all out for 85. The match proved good practice for the visitors, who. left this afternoon for Hamilton, where they will play Waikato tomorrow and on Thursday. Dempster and Dyson opened quietly for the visitors, the former doing most of the scoring in the first half-hour, which yielded 24 runs, of which Dempster had 17 to his credit. Jackson (27) is a free type of batsman, and he played some pretty allround shots, his off drives, leg glances and back cuts being beautifully timed. Oldfield is also a bright type. The English test batsman, J. Hardstaff, who has visited New Zealand twice previously, was top-scorer with 56. >He was content to score mostly with fine placements for singles, anrl hit only one four. Ilis excellent judgment in running between the wickets was an object lesson to the opposing players. Detailed scores’ COMBINED SCHOOLS First Innings So CAHN'S Xl.—First Innings C. S.
