ATTEMPTED SUICIDE
ELDERLY FARMER CHARGED OFFENCE AT CAMBRIDGE Charged with attempting to commit suicide at Cambridge on Friday, an elderly farmer, whose name was suppressed, appeared before Mr S. L. Paterson, S.M., in the Magistrate's Court, Hamilton, this morning. It was stated by the police that accused was a well-to-do farmer and that bis family was held in the highest esteem. Milking had been in progress on the day of the alleged offence when accused's son heard his father call out “good-bye”. The son found that his father had consumed a quantity of antisceptic and immediately had him sent to hospital where he recovered. Accused's action was attributed to ill-health and his wife was intending to take him for an extended holiday. He was convicted and discharged.
