BASKETBALL DANCE
ANNUAL FUNCTION AT TIRAU An important event, the annual basketball dance held by the Tirau Club in the Town Hall recently, was a brilliant success. The hall was thronged with dancers, visitors being present from Matamata, Putaruru and surrounding districts Black and white, the club's colours, were the predominant note In the effective decorative scheme. White shields edged with black and with the letters “T.B C.” in black were arranged along the walls of the hall. A canopy of streamers swayed above, and Chinese lanterns were suspended from a central beam. Masses of greenery transformed the stage, where bowls of lovely autumn-tinted flowers added an attractive note. Mr F. Bear was M.C. The committee responsible for the successful function was: Mesdames G. Cotter, who wore a frock of navy blue cire taffeta with red relief; J. Findlay, ice blue net over satin; I. Runciman, black velvet and lace; Misses Lottie Strong (secretary), black and white cloque; Doreen Stanley, white taffeta; Joyce Houghton, pink georgette; Ruth Allen, maize flowered ninon; Joan Allen, midnight blue georgette. Miss Joan Allen and Mr R. Barnett, and Miss Betty Goodwin and partner were the winners of the novelty dances. Others present were: Mesdames Melrose (Whitford), wearing black flat crepe; W. Goodwin, black cloque with floral trimmings; J. Stewart, electric blue cloque; J. Bansfleld (Auckland), black tulle and gold; M. Strong, black and green crepe elain; J. Drever (Auckland), nut brown sire satin; J. Coubrough, black charmeuse; J. Newton-Wheeler, scarlet satin and black lace redingote; J. Nickolson, green cloque; J. Findlay, pale blue silk net. Misses J. Goodwin, emerald green lace; Zena Coombes, green crinkle crepe: L. Strorfg, black and white crepe de soie; W. Roeton (Rotorua), black marquisette; June NewtonWheeler, navy and white spot taffeta; E. Devine (Matamata), floral marocain; T. Quinn, maroon satin and gold lame; N. Goodwin, green cobweb lace; J. Connell (Matamata), black satin and net; Madge Carruth, golden brown oire satin; P. Marks (Matamata), Coral souple satin; M. Jensen, blush pink shot taffeta; B. Goodwin, floral crepe de chine; Sylvia Perrin (Matamata), floral marocain; J. Pearson, daffodil flowered taffeta; G. Marks, petal pink taffeta and green lacings; F. Ward, blue soir militia; W. Murray (Walton), old gold cloque; I. Lowe (Whitianga), flowered satin; A. Burr, black harcourt crepe; M. Dagg, black oloque; E. Roberts (Matamata), black 6atin; A. Murray, gold taffeta; Edna Clark, pervenche blue matalasse; A. Melville, pink crinkle crepe; Olga Wine, black marietta; R. NewtonWheeler, lime green taffeta; J.
